              Old Case                                      New Case
There are two main periods in the history of case design with the Ericofon. The original ("old case") case was a two piece design. It was molded in mirror images and the two halves glued together with a seam down the middle. The height of the Old Case was 9 1/8" (232mm) tall. Around 1961 a new case was designed. This case was a one piece design and was shorter and more angled. The height of the new case was 8 3/8" (213.5mm). The new case also has a seam down the middle, but this is a molding seam, not a glue seam.
The reason for the design change was to accomodate molding. They changed from a two piece shell to a one piece shell.

The design of the earpiece has changed once in it's history. The original earpiece was flat, parallel with the face of the case. The angle of the original earpiece (Old Case) is 76º.
When the case was redesigned, the angle was changed to a steeper 65°. It was decided that this new angle caused the phone user to hold the phone to close to the face, so the shape of the ear piece was changed to a wedge shape to bring the angle back closer to the original 76º.
