The Automatic Electric Company (later known as GTE) was located originally in Chicago, IL. Their model 80 was the competitor for the Western Electric 500.

The big sales pitch was for their "walking cradle". The cradle on the Western Electric 500 required you to set the handset down square, maybe sometimes missing. The design of the "walking cradle" allowed you to "come close" to hanging up the phone, and the handset would fall into place. This is the biggest visual difference between the 80 and the 500.
